In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
OPENING PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION
O Most Holy Mary, as we celebrate your Assumption in body and soul to the glory of Heaven, we implore you to help us to live with faith and hope in this world, seeking always and in all things the Kingdom of God.
O Lady assumed to Heaven, help us to open ourselves to the presence and action of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit that creates and renews, capable of transforming our hearts.
O Lady of the Assumption, enlighten our minds about the destiny that awaits us – the eternal joy in the heavenly homeland – of the dignity of each one of us and the nobility of our bodies and of our souls, who may one day be with you in the glory of Heaven.
O Blessed Virgin Mary, raised to Heaven, show yourself to us all as Mother of faith, hope, and love!
A SHORT MEDITATION ON THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY BY FR. CHINAKA, OSJ (PART V)
In honouring His beloved and precious Ark, after His Ascension into heaven, our Lord Jesus Christ, judged it worthy that His Blessed Mother be assumed (taken up) body and soul into heaven; that is why the book of Psalms makes the allusion “Go up, Lord to the place of your rest, you and the Ark of your strength…” (Ps. 132:8). In this verse, the Psalmist makes an allusion to the ascension of the Lord into heaven (cf. Luke 24:50-53) and subsequently, that of the Ark of the Lord’s strength, which is better understood as the person of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is why in Revelation 11:19a; 12:1-6a,10ab, John sees the “Ark of the Covenant” in the vision of heaven. We are told that God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the Ark of His Covenant could be seen in the temple, and immediately, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. We were told that she gave birth to a son, a male Child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Inasmuch as this part of the Scripture is also referred to the “Church” at war with the dragon, as in, the “Woman” representing the Church; however, an allusion to the Blessed Virgin Mary could also be drawn here. Notice that the text begins with the presence of the Ark of the Covenant in heaven, and then a “Woman” crowned with twelve stars, to give birth to a Son destined to rule the nations with an iron rod. Now, Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant, she gave birth to Christ the Lord and Ruler. She received the crown of “unfading glory” when she assumed into heaven, little wonder the psalmist makes an allusion to her as the Queen: “On your right stands the Queen in garments of Gold” (Ps. 45:9). (To be continued…)
Silent Prayer and Reflection…
DAY 5 PRAYER
O Mother enthroned forever; “Salve, Regina” (Hail, Queen) is the greeting that will be repeated for eternity by angels and saints, and by the children who still wander in this valley of tears. From the exalted throne on which you reign, turn to us, O Mary, your pious eyes and have pity on us. Look at us and help us for we are surrounded by so many dangers and storms. Through the merits of your blessed Assumption, grant us holy perseverance in divine friendship, so that we may finally leave this life in the grace of God. Before your majesty, I present the following intentions for your maternal care (state your requests).
Recite 3 Hail Marys for the favour you seek to obtain.
O Queen assumed into heaven, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

O sovereign queen of the Angels, we well know that as miserable sinners, we were not worthy to possess you in this vale of tears, and we know that your greatness does not make you forget our misery. In the midst of so much glory, your compassion, far from diminishing, increases more and more for us. From the height of that throne where you reign over all the angels and saints, turn your merciful gaze upon us; see how many storms and a thousand dangers encircle us in these turbulent times. Our queen and mother, obtain for us the increase in faith, confidence, and holy perseverance in friendship with God, so that we can, one day, go kiss your feet and unite our voices with those of the heavenly spirits,
to praise and sing your glories eternally in heaven – Ave Maria! Amen.
