Home Sanctuary: Is the Apostles' Creed even relevant anymore? The Apostles Creed

I BELIEVE in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty: from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Conscientious Catholic: St. Andrew, Apostle/MartyrDaily Prayer to St. Andrew

O Glorious St. Andrew, you were the first to recognize and follow the Lamb of God. With your friend St. John you remained with Jesus for that first day, for your entire life, and now throughout eternity. As you led your brother, St. Peter, to Christ, and many others after him, draw us also to Him. Teach us to lead others to Christ solely out of love for Him, and dedication in His service. Help us to learn the lesson of the Cross and to carry our daily crosses without complaint so that they may carry us to Jesus. Amen.

Short Meditation – Day 9
(Life of Saint Andrew)

Feast of St Andrew, Apostle of Christ, Martyr – 30 November – AnaStpaul

FROM THE “OFFICE OF THE READINGS” [DIVINE OFFICE] ON THE FEAST OF ST. ANDREW

(A sermon of St John Chrysostom on St John’s gospel)

We have found the Messiah

After Andrew had stayed with Jesus and had learned much from him, he did not keep this treasure to himself but hastened to share it with his brother. Notice what Andrew said to him: We have found the Messiah, that is to say, the Christ. Notice how his words reveal what he has learned in so short a time. They show the power of the master who has convinced them of this truth. They reveal the zeal and concern of men preoccupied with this question from the very beginning. Andrew’s words reveal a soul waiting with the utmost longing for the coming of the Messiah, looking forward to his appearing from heaven, rejoicing when he does appear, and hastening to announce so great an event to others. To support one another in the things of the spirit is the true sign of goodwill between brothers, of loving kinship and sincere affection.
Notice, too, how, even from the beginning, Peter is docile and receptive in spirit. He hastens to Jesus without delay. He brought him to Jesus, says the evangelist. But Peter must not be condemned for his readiness to accept Andrew’s word without much weighing of it. It is probable that his brother had given him, and many others, a careful account of the event; the evangelists, in the interest of brevity, regularly summarise a lengthy narrative. Saint John does not say that Peter believed immediately, but that he brought him to Jesus. Andrew was to hand him over to Jesus, to learn everything for himself. There was also another disciple present, and he hastened with them for the same purpose.
When John the Baptist said: This is the Lamb, and he baptizes in the Spirit, he left the deeper understanding of these things to be received from Christ. All the more so would Andrew act in the same way, since he did not think himself able to give a complete explanation. He brought his brother to the very source of light, and Peter was so joyful and eager that he would not delay even for a moment.
(Did St. Andrew’s life influence you? Let us know below in the comment section…)

Pause and reflect for a moment…

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Saint November 30 : St. Andrew Apostle the Patron of Fishermen, Singers, Scotland, RussiaDAY 9 PRAYER

First-Called Apostle of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ, most praiseworthy Andrew! We laud and glorify your apostolic labours, we lovingly commemorate your spiritual presence among us, we revere your honourable sufferings which you bore for Christ;  we venerate your sacred relics, we honour your holy memory and firmly believe that the Lord lives and that your soul lives as well, and you remain with Christ for all ages in heaven, where you have the same love for us as when in the Holy Spirit, did foresee our conversion to Christ. We believe in the faith we confess, O Saint Andrew, whose prayers and intercessions are always heard by our Master, Christ the Lord; pray for us that He may grant us sinners all those things needful unto our salvation: that as you, according to the Lord’s voice, did promptly leave thy nets and follow him unwaveringly, each of us might seek not that which is his own but think rather of the will of God and the salvation of souls. And, having you as a representative and intercessor, we have hope in your prayers, which avail much before our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, to Whom belong all glory, honour, and worship, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, unto ages of ages. (Ask St. Andrew to pray for your intentions…Mention them…) Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father…3 Hail Marys…Glory be…

cross, and, denying ourselves, to take up our cross and follow Thee; that by sharing Thy sufferings in this life, we may deserve the happiness of obtaining life everlasting. Amen.

Really moved and inspired by the life of St Andrew. A selfless life full of love for God and man. Always willing to share the good news he found with others even if it cost him his life and position.

Thank you St. Andrew for interceding for me and my family.

You were such a great Saint, I knew very little was known about you not until now, thanks to Fr Chinaka for this exposé.

A great Saint who at the point of death was still preaching Christ kingdom and the need for sinners to repent. The villagers wanted to help save him, yet he preferred martyrdom.

The giving of himself wholly to Christ is something that amazed me. How can I ever achieve that?
