Home Sanctuary: Is the Apostles' Creed even relevant anymore? The Apostles Creed

I BELIEVE in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty: from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Conscientious Catholic: St. Andrew, Apostle/MartyrDaily Prayer to St. Andrew

O Glorious St. Andrew, you were the first to recognize and follow the Lamb of God. With your friend St. John you remained with Jesus for that first day, for your entire life, and now throughout eternity. As you led your brother, St. Peter, to Christ, and many others after him, draw us also to Him. Teach us to lead others to Christ solely out of love for Him, and dedication in His service. Help us to learn the lesson of the Cross and to carry our daily crosses without complaint so that they may carry us to Jesus. Amen.

Day 6

Beloved in Christ, impress two memorable sayings of the holy Apostle deep into your heart. The first is: “I sacrifice daily to Almighty God…” This is glorious proof to you that the Apostles performed the holy Sacrifice of Mass; for to this alone can the words of St. Andrew have the reference. Conclude, therefore, from this, that it is false for the heretics to say that the first Christians knew nothing of the holy sacrifice of the Mass by were only involved in a communal meal. Did not St. Andrew live during the first years of Christianity? Be not confused by the lies of the heretics, but believe that Christ instituted the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at His Last Supper. The second memorable saying of the Apostle is: “The honours you offer me have no value in my eyes because they are temporal and pass away; your tortures I despise for the same reason.” Consider it well. All temporal honours, all joys, pass away quickly. How foolish is it, therefore, to love them immoderately, and to forfeit for them the eternal honors, riches, and joys! No pain or trial on this earth lasts forever, but that which awaits the sinner in the other world is endless. Should we not, therefore, embrace sufferings here on behalf of the Catholic faith so as to escape torments hereafter?

Pause and reflect for a moment…

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Saint November 30 : St. Andrew Apostle the Patron of Fishermen, Singers, Scotland, RussiaDAY 6 PRAYER

Beloved Saint and glorious martyr, we turn to you today as the Holy Book instructs us to do: “Remember your leaders, who preached the Word of God to you, and as you reflect on the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.” Set my heart on fire with a love for Jesus, o Blessed Andrew, that I may thirst for His sacraments and recognize the saving effects of the Holy sacrifice of the Mass as you did, and burn with zeal for the spread of His kingdom. By your powerful intercession, help me in the performance of my duties to God, to the Church, and the society. (Ask St. Andrew to pray for your intentions…Mention them…) Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father…3 Hail Marys…Glory be…

CONCLUDING PRAYER

O CHRIST, our Lord, Who didst beautify the most blessed Andrew with the grace of apostleship, and the crown of martyrdom, by granting to him this special gift, that by preaching the mystery of the cross, he should merit death on the cross; grant us to become most true lovers of Thy holy
cross, and, denying ourselves, to take up our cross and follow Thee; that by sharing Thy sufferings in this life, we may deserve the happiness of obtaining life everlasting. Amen.
